International Gold Cup – THIS WEEKEND

Looking for some fun this weekend – then head out of DC to the lush countryside of The Plains, Virginia for the 70th running of the International Gold Cup. Thousands will gather to watch the steeplechase races with jockeys from around the world. Why am I blogging about this, you might ask? Well, this event has some of the most gourmet tailgating around! And who doesn’t love a day of fun in the country! Lavash tents surround the rail with people partying all day long. Be sure to check back next week for pictures of some of the gourmet finds along with recipes.

If you get tired of all the hats and swanky clothing, there are plenty of great eateries in the area…

Check out the Ashby Inn and Restaurant for delicious French-inspired comfort food. This is also one of the hotspots for partying the night before the race.

or The Coach Stop Restaurant for “a great meal and genuine hospitality”

or stop by Market Salamander to pick up the fixings for an afternoon picnic. A few highlights from their a la carte counter include Pulled Pork with Homemade BBQ sauce, Jumbo Lump Crabcakes and Fig, Gorgonzola, Caramelized Onion Tarts. Most items are sold by the pound.

Taste of Georgetown TOMORROW

Don’t miss the Taste of Georgetown this Saturday! Over 30 restaurants will be serving up fare and several local wine shops will be doing free tastings.

Favorite restaurants include 1789, Cafe Bonaparte, Mie N Yu, Filomena, and many more… After attending the last couple of years, I can assure you there will be great food and wine – along with great people watching!

Tasting tickets are $5 each, 5 for $20 or unlimited for $100!

It all will be happening on Wisconsin Avenue, between M Street and South Street, and on the lawn of the Grace Episcopal Church at 1041 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Jump on the Georgetown blue bus, which will run every 10 minutes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a free ride to the event from the Dupont and Rosslyn Metro stations.
