The District Domestic goes to Vegas!

My husband and I spent last weekend eating our way around Vegas while visiting friends and I have so much to share!  A good vacation always takes off with a plethora of plane reading (aka restaurant research) and touches down with friends who live in the city as a guide – both of which were A+ for this trip.

It all started Friday afternoon with lunch at the much written about Burger Bar in Mandalay Bay. We ordered the Veggie Burger (I know, but I had to try it!), Kobe Beef Burger and the Black Jack Burger.  The tastiest bite was a toss up between their skinny fries and the zucchini fries. Even my non-veggie eating husband thought the zucchini fries were incredible.

Friday dinner was at Brand Steakhouse in the Monte Carlo.  We had too much to eat to list it all, but let me just tell you – it included every bit of edible indulgence you can imagine.  Favorite bite was the lobster mashed potatoes.  Favorite drink, their classic martini (seen below).

Saturday breakfast was at Bouchon Bakery in The Venetian.  Have I told you how much I love really good doughnuts? (Want to make your own?  Here’s my how to.)

Saturday lunch at In and Out Burger (my husband had never been) and after an arduous morning of hiking at Red Rock, we felt we deserved the Double Double with fries, Animal Style.

Saturday dinner was at Stack in The Mirage.  Again, indulgence seemed to be the name of the game this vacation, especially since we had just finished lunch at 4:30.  Favorites here included Hot Rocks – $18 – Thinly Sliced Sirloin, Tableside Preparation.

peppermill-vegas1After seeing Love – The Beatles Cirque de Soleil at The Mirage, we felt we need to experience more Vegas dining so we headed to BLT Burger where the Homemade Jalapeno Poppers are good, but the BBQ Nachos with Chopped Brisket, Monterey Jack, Sour Cream, & Chipotle for $9 take the cake!

Sunday morning we headed to Peppermill Diner for a little greasy medicine to cure our headaches from a late night out.  While the food was good, the experience was golden… From the “firepit” (a flame amid a puddle of some sort of liquid in the bar) to the mirrored ceilings to the prom dresses for uniforms for the cocktail servers, this meal was certainly a hoot.

Monday morning we got our last fill of Bouchon doughnuts before heading to Mesa Grill in Caesar’s Palace for a spicy lunch before heading to the airport.  The Blue and White Corn Muffins in the bread basket are incredible (I made them this week – stay tuned for the recipe) and the Chicken Tacos with spicy peanut bbq sauce are so delightfully complex with all the different layers of flavor.

So, that’s it!  Our culinary over-the-top indulgent weekend in Vegas!  Coming up next week, vegetarian, fat-free, fasting menus 🙂

  1. Looks amazing! I love Mesa Grill, I have to go there every time I’m in Vegas. I make the corn muffins at home too.
