Has anyone else noticed that the whole city seems to smell like flowers?
As the District Cherry Blossom trees begin to open, DC restaurant menus are abloom with Cherry Blossom dishes and specials!
Restaurants offering floret-inspired drinks include Zengo in Chinatown ( The “Cherry Blossom Saketini,” La Tasca, also in Chinatown, (with a $3.00 Cherry Blossom Sangria until April 10), Firefly (who has muddled a cherry-flavored Cherry Blossom Mojito), and Bangkok Joe’s Dumpling Bar and Cafe (serving up a Frozen Cherry Bellini).
Main dishes have also been infused with Cherry flavor: Beacon Bar and Grill’s Cherry-glazed Salmon sounds amazing, as does Belga’s Duck Breast with Cherry Beer sauce, and, if you are feeling like really indulging yourself, Charlie Palmer’s steakhouse has created a Roasted Colorado Lamb with Bing Cherries for the occasion.
And, as cherries are oh so very sweet, of course DC restaurants have gone above and beyond in celebrating the festival with delicious desserts, such as Georgia Brown’s sundried cherry cobbler, Asia Nines Coconut Cherry Cream Pie, and Café MoZU’s cherry blossom Crème Brûlée (Oo-la-la!).
Several restaurants offer entire tasting menus for the event, including TenPenh and Bangkok Joe’s, and each runs until the festival’s end on April 13th.
