Worth Waking Up For…

dcw053.jpgDetails magazine recently compiled a list of restaurants serving up the best breakfasts from coast to coast. The magazine’s choices, which are featured on men.style.com, are noteworthy, not only due to breakfast’s reputation as the “most important meal of the day,” but also, because DC’s own Florida Avenue Grill made the final cut!

Florida Avenue Grill has been operating in the U. Street area since 1944. The restaurant has earned its staying power by offering an authentic, southern atmosphere in addition to its (now, nationally) famous French toast. The decor and the menu of the deli greatly differ from those of Washington’s swankier breakfast and brunch hot-spots, but are sure to leave you equally satisfied (and with more change in your pocket!).

Other winners included San Antonio’s Taco Taco Café, a restaurant known for perfecting the breakfast burrito, Charlie’s Sandwich Shoppe, a Boston eatery that was once frequented by jazz legend, Duke Ellington, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina’s Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen, which, according to Details, has managed to redeem the fast-food phrases “drive-thru” and “sausage biscuit.”
