Tip of the Day: Adding Dry Ingredients to a Recipe

If you have ever lost track of what dry ingredients you’ve added to a recipe before, this tip is for you. Place a large mesh strainer over your bowl and add the largest quantity ingredients first – usually the flour and sugar. Then spoon the smaller quantity ingredients on top – usually the salt, baking soda, etc. This way, you have visible mounds of all the ingredients to make sure you haven’t missed anything, and they get a sifting when you shake the strainer to transfer them to the bowl.
