Tip of the Day: Peeling Chestnuts

chestnut_200.jpgIf you are making a dressing with chestnuts for Thanksgiving this Thursday, here are our tips to easily peel them of their outer shell. To start, make sure you choose chestnuts unwrinkled shells and a glossy brown surface. Damaged shells can indicate mold or that worms or insects have already had their share of the chestnut. Then take a sharp knife and make a small incision in the chestnut and cut all the way around the fattest part. Once you have done this on all your chestnuts, roast them in an oven at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. While the chestnuts are still hot, remove and throw away each shell and papery skin. Voila!
